28 days to go...

I'm pretty excited about our adventure this summer. We leave at the end of June (some wonderful friends are staying with our pets and house) and are gone for 3 full weeks. Here are the highlights:

  • Overnight flight from Logan (Boston) to Charles de Gaulle (Paris)
  • 15-hour layover in Paris, France
  • Overnight flight to Johannesburg, South Africa
  • Puddle jumper to Gaborone, Botswana
  • One night in the village of Kumakwane, Botswana
  • Road trip to Ghanzi, Botswana (en route to Namibia)
  • Road trip to Swakopmund, Namibia
  • Explore Swakopmund and the Namib Desert
  • Quad Biking in the Namib Desert
  • Visit Walvis Bay to see the flamingos
  • Road trip back to Ghanzi
  • Walk with the San people
  • Head to Maun for an Okavango Boat Cruise and sunrise safari
  • Drive to Nata to stay at Elephant Sands
  • Drive to Serowe to visit the Rhino Sanctuary
  • Back to Kumakwane
  • Fly to Cape Town by way of Johannesburg
  • Drive to Gansbaai
  • Cage Dive with Great White Sharks
  • Head to L'Agulhas
  • Drive to Hermanus to see the whales from shore
  • Head to Cape Town
  • Visit Robben Island, District 6 Museum, Table Mountain Cable Cars, Boulder Beach
  • Head home via Johannesburg and Paris
This will be my second trip to Botswana. Last time I spent time in Kumakwane and Kasane, but not many places in between. This time we're driving around so much of the country. I hope that we'll get to see the Makgadikgadi Pan between Maun and Nata. It probably won't be exciting at all, but I've never seen a salt pan before.
